Tips for Effective, Creative PR Ideas

Effective ideas in PR can seem difficult in such a competitive industry, however there are certain steps you can take to help lead you in the right direction.

Here are some tips to help generate effective and creative PR ideas:

Keep up to date on trends

Public relations is an ever-changing industry, where a 24/7 news cycle will dictate what is trending and what is not.

People now read news and educational stories on current events on social media rather than traditional outlets. These platforms allow for more personal insight into specific groups and their personal feelings toward current issues.

To generate creative ideas, make sure you regularly take note of trending stories on all mediums in order to deliver an effective campaign that will resonate with the targeted audience.

In depth research

Extensive and in-depth research about the benefits and disadvantages of a particular idea will help you stay informed and educated.

Particularly within the initial planning process, extensive research allows for a base level of knowledge towards the overall goal and the specific target market. Effective ideas may be in the wrong direction if the goals and target markets are not incorporated into the PR thought process.

The calendar

The calendar is an excellent guide for a wide variety of celebrated occasions that PR activities can revolve around and draw inspiration from. Calendar events such as public holidays or an anniversary for a particular business is an effective way of creating media attention.

Even lesser-known holidays such as “Hobbit Day” or “Croissant day” creates a quirky excuse for generating media buzz in a light hearted manner. Annual sporting events or cultural milestones can also act as a source of creative inspiration, as they will generally draw the attention of mass audiences.

Journalistic thinking

Ultimately, the content and ideas cultivated need to be newsworthy. So all of your content needs to timely, socially significant and of human interest. To get the attention of journalists, you must first think like a journalist in terms of what will seem most attractive to them. This method will help to guide creative thinking in a constructive way.

Effective and creative ideas within public relations may seem hard to grasp, however by applying these tips towards the planning and overall thought process, dynamic and constructive thinking can be achieved.
