It’s all about the headline
Journalists receive an overwhelming level of emails in any given day which is why your ‘headline’ is important so it can quickly get their attention.  If it doesn’t grab them, they’ll probably (certainly) never read any further.

Be succinct
Brevity is important in any press release – the traditional format for these is short and there is a good reason for this. Again, it comes down to the time investment of a hard-pressed journalist. They appreciate the fact that you’ve succinctly given them all they need – saving time and effort for them.

Newsworthiness
Crucial ingredients for a successful press release include relevance (to the audience and publications you are targeting) but above all your press release must be newsworthy. This is a hard quality to define, sometimes, but relevance to current news coverage is a starting point.
