PR predictions for 2013

The online world and media landscape is constantly changing and PR professionals need to stay ahead of current trends to continue providing great results for their clients or business.

Now is a great time to think about how the media and online space will change throughout this year in order to create an effective PR strategy for 2013.

PR Daily has provided some of their PR predictions for 2013.

Reputable journalism revived: Consumers are becoming overloaded with information as blogging and social media has increased the volume of online news. Citizen journalism and the speed at which news is now available have led some news organisations to make mistakes in their reporting. In 2013 consumers will look for a higher standard of reporting and will increase their reliance on reputable news sources.

Mobile-friendly content: Many consumers and journalists will be using their mobile devices as their main source to read the news. PR professionals will need to learn how to create mobile-friendly content which reaches the right audience at the right time.

Create more visual content: In 2012 there was a shift towards more visual content as Instagram, infographics and photo sharing became more popular with consumers. This year PR professionals will need to communicate their messages with a higher emphasis on visual content in order to be seen in the crowded online space.

PR will win social media ownership: This year PR will become the front runner in the debate over which corporate profession should ‘own’ social media. Businesses will recognise the importance of maintaining their reputation on social media as well as the need to engage with their target audience. They will then turn to PR professionals for help. PR professionals are already responsible for managing a business’ communication with its public and will continue to do so with social media.

By staying ahead of current trends in PR and the media you can ensure you deliver the right messages at the right time to the correct target audience.
