Make the most of a speaking opportunity

Speaking at events and conferences is a great way to increase your personal profile, build your business’ brand awareness and communicate with your target audience.

However, if you find you are not experiencing any value from speaking at events then maybe you are not making the most of them.

By implementing some simple tactics at your next speaking event you may be able to achieve new career or business opportunities.

All About Public Relations has provided some great tips to maximise your speaking engagements.

Inform attendees
As a speaker you are given the opportunity to inform attendees about your business to help raise awareness. You can do this by incorporating case studies or examples from your business into your speech. This is also a great way to highlight why attendees may have a need for your business’ products or services.

Increase your visibility
You can increase your business’ exposure in specific industry sectors. If there is an area where you would like to find more clients then try and speak at an event in this industry to access potential clients.

Advertise
Your name and your business’ name will be on all marketing materials for the event. You can use this to your advantage to advertise and promote your business. Share the event brochures and information with all your networks and on social media. This is a great way to raise your profile and increase attendance at the event.

Handouts
You should bring handouts for all attendees or to include in the gift bags. This handout should have all your contacts details on it and give attendees a reason to enquire about your products or services, such as by offering them a discount.

Bring a colleague
When speaking at an event it’s a good idea to bring a colleague to maximise your networking opportunities. With two people ‘working the room’ you will be able to meet a lot more attendees and spread your business’ message further.

Bring business cards
Always remember to bring business cards to exchange with people you meet at the event. You could also leave a pile of your cards at the entrance or on the registration table for people to take.

By making the most of each speaking engagement you will be rewarded for the time and effort you put into the presentation.
