It’s fair to say that Google+ has become quite a popular platform in the social media world. It recently crossed the 25 million members line and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.
As public relations practitioners, it is vital to stay up to date and in the loop with new technologies and media platforms that are made available to us. Smedio has provided a few ways in which Google+ can be used for public relations.
1. Circles:
Circles are used purely to share information with a chosen set of people who find this information interesting. PR practitioners can use circles to create groups of targeted audiences and send them relative information that they know they will be interested in.
2. Hangouts:
Nothing can beat talking or meeting someone face to face when it comes to PR. Currently there is a limitation on how many people can be involved in a ‘Hangout’. If this limitation is lifted chances are hangouts will be an invaluable PR tool as they have the potential to replace podcasts and video press releases.
3. Private in a public space:
Google+ is all about making a public identity, posting what is important to you and seeing whether people react to it. Public relations goes by the same type of rules. Google+ allows everything that is posted to be there for the world to see. This makes Google+ an ideal platform to post media releases, announcements, podcasts and articles.
