How to use events as PR opportunities

Industry events have many great opportunities for public relations. A gathering of professionals or potential clients provides many different ways to build relationships and your brand.

Philippa Lowe has written a great article on Flying Solo about how you can use events as PR opportunities. She suggests that you attend, speak at and host events for the following reasons:

Attend events in order to network and promote your business. Industry events are a great way to meet and build relationships with professionals in your industry, and even potential clients.

Speak at events to build credibility and a profile. Even if you aren’t paid for speaking, the experience will be worthwhile because you will have the opportunity to build your expert profile by sharing your area of knowledge. You’ll also meet people and build your brand image.

Host events – it doesn’t have to be a huge conference. Consider a workshop, a networking group or an online seminar. You can either speak at the event yourself and establish yourself as an expert in your field, or organise for someone else to speak, and benefit from the event promotion and the chance to meet potential clients.

Start looking for events that you could attend, thinking about topics you could speak on, or finding out what types of workshops or seminars your target audience might attend. It’s a great way to build upon your PR strategy.
