Last weekend I visited Freycinet National Park on the east cost of Tasmania. This is an amazing part of Australia, and to get the most out of it we did kayaking, bush walking and also took a boat ride on our last day.
We chose to do the 4 hour “The Full Wineglass Bay Cruise” through Freycinet Sea Cruises. It included champagne, cheese and oysters and served at anchor in Wineglass Bay which is recognised as one of the world’s top ten beaches.
We didn’t actually get to Wineglass on this trip due to bad weather, but we did anchor on Crockets beach to have our glass of bubbly and cheese.
When the host poured the champagne he gave us a great story about the local Spring Vale Champagne, how it was sourced locally and the image on the bottle was of the woman who started the Tasmania branch of the RSPCA. I love champagne and thought gee I wouldn’t mind buying a bottle to take home – which I did as we went past the vineyard on our way to Hobart.
My sister had Oysters from the local Freycinet Marine Farm. I heard a couple mention that they would stop there after the cruise to buy some for dinner.
The Ashgrove Cheeses were from outside Hobart, and the host told a great story about how they created Wasabi Cheese and are selling it to the Japanese. My sister said “we should get some”!
Essentially what these local companies are doing is tapping into the tourist market with experiential marketing. The Freycinet Sea Cruises offers locally sourced produce which is a highlight of the cruise, and the local businesses are giving prospective customers an opportunity to taste test with the hope they turn into actual customers.
What a great idea!
Do you have any local businesses that you can develop a partnership with to cross sell products, or can you create alliances with business that gives you access to prospective customers which you aren’t getting now? It is certainly working for the local businesses in the Freycinet area, it might work for you.
